WEST POTSDAM -- The 20th Hobble Gobble Prediction Run/Walk, held Nov. 18, drew 469 participants representing 81 communities in New York State, Ontario and Quebec plus the states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.

$13,200 was raised for area charities, including the Potsdam Holiday Fund, the Colton, Ogdensburg and Massena Neighborhood Centers, Helping Hands of Potsdam, Norwood-Norfolk-Raymondville Outreach, Heuvelton Giving Tree, Jules for Life Foundation and the Potsdam Rescue Squad.

Racers who did the best job of predicting their course times were, for the long course, Emily McKernan of Dickinson Center, who was 2.7 seconds off her predicted time, and on the short course, 10-year-old Hyrum Pinegar of Potsdam who was just six tenths of a second off.

The Fastest runner on the short course of 3.81 miles was Laura Grant-Poirier of Cornwall, Ont., at 28:46, and on the long course of 6.5 miles, was David Hurlbut of Potsdam, at 43:19.

The oldest participants were 85-year-old Jean Bernaquez of Montreal and 84-year-old Ian Sim from Alexandria, Ont.

Race organizer Derry Loucks expressed regret that Sportstats of Ottawa, the race timing company, experienced issues with bib computer chip times not being recorded for 117 participants which affected the results for some.

The 21st Annual Hobble Gobble is set for Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018. Registration will open in early July.
