COLTON -- A 1940’s “radio hour” will be held July 18 and 19 at 7 p.m. and July 20 and 21 at 3:30 p.m. at Colton-Pierrepont Central School.

The two-part show will include “Stories of a Town” and “The 1940’s Radio Hour.”

“Stories of a Town,” directed by Bill Riehl, is based on experiences of veterans and townspeople during the 1940s and World War II. During the 1940’s a number of events, including the Higley floating islands in 1942 and the school burning in 1943, took place in Colton.

The stories derive from oral histories gathered by the Colton Historical Society and Colton-Pierrepont Central School. They stories gathered will be used for displays at the Colton Museum after the show.

The “1940’s Radio Hour”, a stage show written by Walton Jones, replicates the broadcast of a radio variety show from 1942.

The audience will watch the cast and band rehearse and perform songs of the 1940’s, as well as commercials, messages to the troops and sound effects. Karen Wells will serve as stage director and Lori Gruneisen will be the musical director.

General admission tickets are $10 and student tickets are $5.

Tickets can be purchased at Northern Music and Video, 29 Market St., Potsdam; TAUNY Center, 53 Main St., Canton; Colton Information Center at Stone Valley in the Museum, 95 Main St., Colton; Raquette River Information Center, St. Hwy. 56, South Colton; or at the door.
