WADDINGTON -- The 13th annual “Sons' Ice Fishing Derby” will be Saturday, Feb. 8, with expanded boundaries and new prizes planned for this year.

The “Come Hook Some Cold Hard Cash” derby is hosted by the Sons of the American Legion and will begin at “sun up” and end at 4 p.m.

A $50 prize will be awarded to the best-decorated ice shack.

The boundaries for the tournament have been expanded to include the entire town of Waddington, from the Iroquois Dam to the Coles Creek Marina and all connecting waterways.

Weigh in will be at Coles Creek Marina.

Over $2,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded, including $500 for the heaviest live northern pike and $50 each for heaviest walleye and perch.

A 50/50 raffle and door prizes will also be offered.

Registration is $25 per person, and children under 16 fish free.

Prizes will be awarded immediately following the derby at the Champion-Hobkirk American Legion Post 420 on Fenton Street.

A kids bracket for participants under age 16 will be offered. All registered children will receive a prize.

Proceeds from the derby will be used to support charitable work in Waddington and neighboring communities.
