OGDENSBURG -- A thousand people are expected to attend the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce’s Ogtoberfest, which will include music, beer, German food and a fireworks show.

“We’re hoping to get 1,000 people through the door, maybe more,” chamber Executive Director Laura Pearson said. “Last year we had low numbers because we were outside and it rained, so we moved it indoors this year.”

This year’s event will be Oct. 3 from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Lockwood Civic Center. Admission is $5.

There will be a beer trailer with a variety of brewed alcoholic beverages, River Myst wine slushies and Lakeland winery.

“I’m sure they’ll do Oktoberfest beer … it’s usually something fallish,” Pearson said.

There will also be bratwurst, hot dogs, German pretzels and alcohol-free cider and donuts from the Fort La Presentation Association.

“We have beer, food, wine, different vendors are going to be there,” Pearson said.

People who want to drink need not worry about driving. River City Taxi Service will offer cab rides in town for $3, which is a discount from their normal rate. Their number is 528-2862.

The Oswegatchie River Boys will open the event with about an hour of music. Double Axel will take the stage afterward from 5 to 8 p.m.

“There will be room for dancing,” Pearson said.

Vendors onhand will include MJ’s Candles, the wineries mentioned above, crafter Paulette Costigan and Susie’s Stitches. The chamber will sell hats and sweatshirts.

“I’m still taking vendors this week … booths are only $40,” Pearson said. “I’m also looking for service clubs if they want to set up a table and sell raffle tickets, t-shirts, raise money for their club.”

The event will close with an 8 p.m. fireworks show.

“You’ll be able to see everything from the Lockwood property because they’ll be at Lighthouse Point,” Pearson said.

Chairs will be provided. People can opt to bring their own lawn chairs.

Anyone who needs more information or wants to register as a vendor can call the chamber at 393-3620.
