WASTEWATER SUPERVISOR
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The Development Authority of the North Country (DANC) seeks applicants for a Wastewater Supervisor. DANC is a multi-faceted New York State public benefit corporation created in the mid 1980s. Since its establishment, DANC has constructed regional water and sewer utilities, a solid waste management facility, and an open access telecommunication network. In addition to owning/operating these facilities, DANC administers housing and economic development programs and provides contracted water/wastewater services to municipalities in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties. DANC is seeking a Wastewater Supervisor to oversee the overall operation and maintenance of a regional wastewater treatment facility and supervise operations and maintenance personnel responsible for day-to-day operations. Duties will include: ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulatory requirements; establishing written standard operating procedures; providing supervision of personnel; monitoring operations daily, assessing problems, diagnosing failures; developing and maintaining spreadsheets to monitor plant performance; making adjustments necessary to keep facility within permit limits; maintaining Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to electronically track preventative maintenance and repair work orders, updating capital plan and preparing budget; preparing monthly reports and graphs to communicate to customers about plant performance, status of projects, and budget; completing periodic regulatory reports, permit renewals, etc.; coordination with engineers and customers to resolve problems; work may require irregular hours. QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field. Candidates that have completed an Associate’s degree with exceptional experience will be considered. Advanced skills and technical knowledge of wastewater treatment attained by specialized courses and on-the-job training required. Grade IIIA Wastewater certification issued by the State of New York is preferred; ability to obtain license in 18 months required. Minimum of five years directly related experience in wastewater treatment/operations, including at least two years in a supervisory role is recommended. Strong technical and supervisory skills required. Computer proficiency in MS Office applications required; prior experience with a CMMS beneficial.
