Workshops to help artists further their career start Sept. 20 in Potsdam

POTSDAM – The St. Lawrence County Arts Council is offering workshops to help artists around the North Country to further their arts careers.

Each costs $20 per person. They are held at the SLC Arts Council's Conference Room in Downtown Snell Hall, Potsdam. When you register for a class through the SLC Arts Council website, you have the option to pay on-line.

• Pricing and Product Development with Hilary Oak, Tuesday, Sept. 20, 6:30-8:30 p.m. This workshop will helps artists in developing a consistent strategy for pricing artwork, crafts, or services. A method to calculate overhead costs, ideas for packaging, and developing a product line that appeals to a broad range of customers are among the topics to be discussed.

• Record Keeping and Business Basics for Artists with Hilary Oak, Tuesday, Oct. 18, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Should artists be collecting sales tax in transactions? What is an FEIN number? Which business expenses are tax deductible? Is filing a Schedule C form required? These and other mysteries that artists grapple with will be discussed in depth during this informative workshop. Bring your questions.
