MASSENA -- The village of Massena may sell a 100-by-100-foot parcel of land in the East Orvis Street park across from Baxter's Automotive.
Michael and Jessica Baxter, who own the business, came before the Village Board of Trustees on Thursday and said they want to use the space to park cars for sale and employee's vehicles.
Mayor James Hidy said the sale might get a bit tricky because "it's village property in the Town of Massena."
Therefore, zoning and planning issues would have to be resolved with the town. It would also have to be subdivided from the park.
"I'm not saying it can't be done, there are steps we have to take," Hidy said.
"Contrary to what it seems like, we love businesses in Massena," Trustee Patricia Wilson said. "We want them to grow, we want them to prosper."
Baxter offered to pay survey and appraisal fees, if it would speed up the process and they weren't exorbitantly high.
