MASSENA -- The village will officially announce and launch their 1 GB internet corridor on Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. at the town hall.
The event is open to the public.
It will be hosted by Mayor Tim Currier, Mark Scarano, co-chair of the federal Northern Border Regional Commission, and Slic COO Kevin Lynch.
People who want to attend need to RSVP by Nov. 10 to villageclerk@village.massena.ny.us or 315-769-8625.
The project upgraded Slic’s 7.5-mile network and extended it two extra miles to the St. Lawrence Centre. Currier in August said there are now 265 businesses in the village with the connection, and Massena is the first North Country community to offer that speed to that many customers.
The service uses a pure fiber optic, which allows more users to go online at the same time without slowing down the connection, the mayor said.
