POTSDAM -- Two local businesses are lending a hand to an Amish basketmaker whose injuries sustained in a recent car-buggy accident have left him unable to make baskets for the next few weeks.

Mose S. Miller was riding his buggy on Morley-Potsdam Road on Nov. 25 and was struck by Kathryn R. Bonno, 26, of Potsdam. She was cited for failure to use due care while passing an animal. Police previously stated that the horse survived and is doing well.

While Miller recovers, The Nut Shop International will take orders for his baskets by phone and Willow Tree Florist and Landscaping will sell them out of their store.

“People who travel Route 11 between Potsdam and Canton have probably seen him set up and selling his baskets, either on Friday or Saturday, just before the Morley-Potsdam Road. Unfortunately, it looks as though he’ll be unable to do so over the next few weeks due to his injuries and the damage to his buggy,” said Jo Ann Roberts, owner of The Nut Shop International.

“With a portion of our building now dedicated to locally-made products from artisans and crafters, it’s a perfect fit for Amish baskets. And, while Jo Ann offers his baskets in her own business’ booth here, we’re happy to make room for a larger quantity given his unfortunate situation. Since he sets up just down the road from us, we’ve come to know him and are happy to help,” said Willow Tree Florist co-owner Jennifer Blanchard. The store is at 7580 U.S. Hwy. 11.
