Two new bed & breakfasts, one in a former fraternity house, open in Potsdam

POTSDAM --- A former fraternity house and another old home in the village have been remodeled and are opening as a bed-and-breakfasts.

The Emerald, 20 Pleasant St., is in a fully restored large Victorian home that had once lodged a fraternity, and the building had suffered a fire.

And the Siam Classic Inn, 62 Elm St., has been remodeled as a historic Thai house.

Owner Ning Gao has four no-smoking guest suites and ample space for dining, lounging, and recreation. Room rates are $100 to 150 per night, depending on the suite and the night, and there are special rates for extended stays. Breakfast is included.

The Siam Classic Inn has three rooms available, each designed to present a period in Thai history.

Owners John and Amornat Lindsey have decorated the rooms with photographs, artwork, and furniture representative of the period in the history of Siam, now Thailand.

Rates are $110 to $150 per night for the three non-smoking rooms. Breakfast is included.
