Updated June 1 3:45 p.m. to correct date of fire
AKWESASNE -- Twin Leaf’s parent company says they hope to have partial gas sales up and running in a couple of days and will rebuild the burned store.
The gas station was destroyed early Sunday morning after a car fire spread to the store, which Lauzon said is a total loss. She described the diner as having sustained “severe smoke and water damage.”
No one was injured.
“Twinleaf aims to have a partial gas and diesel operation open again at our Hogansburg location with the next couple of days,” said April Lauzon, operations manager for CAA Management, the store’s parent company. “Twinleaf Gas and Tobacco will be revived, rebuilt, and reopened for business.”
She says there are more than 50 the fire affects.
“This does affect 54 employees,” Lauzon said. “As a company, we are trying the best to move people around.”
CAA also operates Twin Leaf Diner and Express in Fort Covington, and in Akwesasne, Jreck’s Subs and Smokers Warehouse.
“We thank all of the first responders as well as our amazing staff who pitched in to help where needed,” Lauzon wrote in a prepared statement. “This has been a difficult time for our family and we appreciate the support and outpouring of concern from the community.”
