Titus Mountain in Malone opens for ski season Saturday

MALONE -- Following what company officials say was one of their earliest pre-season openings a few weeks ago, Titus Mountain will open for the season Saturday with all of their trails and glades ready for skiing and riding.

Last week, the mountain operations team decided to stay closed on the weekend of Dec. 10 and 11 to focus on snowmaking.

“Knowing that we will have all of our terrain open for guests this weekend makes that decision a lot easier to swallow,” said Titus general manager Zachary White in a news release. “We say it often, but we honestly have never seen the mountain look this good, especially this early in the season.”

Snowmakers sprayed over 10 feet of snow on the upper mountain in many spots and are continuing their efforts around the mountain. Mother Nature has aided the snowmakers efforts as well, adding another six inches of natural snow in the past few days to the terrain with more expected in the forecast. Over 16 inches of natural snow has been reported in the last two weeks.

“Prepping for the opening in the groomer this morning, even the places where we don’t make snow, like our glades, are a thing of beauty,” White said.

To mark the official opening, Titus will have live music by Shawn Legacy in their Lower Lodge from 5 to 9 p.m. and will have a limited menu available at their restaurant, the Moon Valley Grill.

The tubing hill is scheduled to open Dec. 24.
