Thousands unable to view NCNow as murder trial verdict announced; changes made to accommodate large volume of traffic

So many people tried to visit NorthCountryNow.com just as the Nick Hillary murder trial verdict was being announced this morning, the site failed to load for most viewers.

The site didn’t actually shut down, but because thousands of people were trying to access it at the same time, it became incredibly sluggish for the lucky few who made it through.

Barely 200 viewers were able to access the site at any given time, compared to 300 to 400 who generally visit at any one time during normal peak viewing periods.

But today, thousands attempted to visit NorthCountryNow.com, all within a short period of time, just as the murder trial verdict was to be announced.

Unfortunately, while a few people got through and viewed a very sluggish site, most viewers simply got a message that the page failed to load.

Behind the scenes, our tech team quickly reduced the “keep alive time” on the server from 300 to 20 seconds and increased the maximum clients to 8,000 for the site.

When that failed to solve the problem, the computing power on the server was increased significantly.

The virtual Central Processing Unit was increased by 30 percent and the RAM was increased by 400 percent, and the problem was finally solved.

Our apologies to our many viewers who turned to NorthCountryNow.com to find out the murder trial verdict.

We are already making changes to avoid a similar occurrence the next time a large traffic surge hits NorthCountryNow.com.
