UPDATE: Stewart's Shops president postpones visit to Potsdam store

Posted

POTSDAM — Stewart’s Shops president was to celebrate the Market Street shop and its customers for having the highest percentage growth in donations collected during the first half of the Stewart’s Holiday Match campaign, but that trip was postponed according to a representative from the store.

Stewart’s Shops President Gary Dake traditionally works a shift at a Stewart’s shop as part of the holiday season.

As of Sunday, Dec.11, the shop had collected $1,682 – a growth of 289 percent compared to the same time last season. This is the first of three incentives offered to shops for the Holiday Match program.

The Holiday Match program has set a record for the third consecutive season. From Thanksgiving through Christmas Day, customers donated more than $926,000 which becomes more than $1.85 million with the Stewart’s match.

The program has now raised more than $24 million since its inception in 1986.

Visits will be also be made to a location with the highest growth at the end of the campaign, as well as a shop with the most donations collected from customers. Those shops are located in Colonie and Malta, respectively.

Local children’s organizations are encouraged to apply for Holiday Match funding online at stewartsshops.com or to pick up a paper application at any shop.

The deadline for submission is Jan. 31. All groups applying must be locally based, benefit children under 18, and be a qualified, charitable 501c3 organization.

A brochure listing all the local organizations that received funds last season is available at stewartsshops.com.
