POTSDAM -- St. Lawrence Health System (SLHS) has appointed Sergio A. Garcia as the administrative chief of staff.

In this role, Garcia will oversee the day-to-day operations of the administrative office. Among other duties, he will coordinate board functions, lead governmental relations activities, and represent SLHS’s Canton-Potsdam Hospital in building and sustaining external relationships, including those with universities and other organizations in the North Country.

Garcia served most recently as chief of staff and vice president for diversity, equality, and inclusion for the office of the president of Northeast Ohio Medical University. Prior to this, he had a career in government and the not-for-profit sectors. He served as chief of staff and senior policy advisor in the US Department of State and as an intelligence officer with the Department of Defense.

Garcia holds a degree in public international law from the Universidad de las Americas, Puebla, Mexico, and a certificate in executive management leadership from Case Western Reserve University. A Master of Science degree in positive organization development and change is in progress (May 2016), also from Case Western.
