OGDENSBURG -- St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union (SLFCU) recently fulfilled a three-year $15,000 pledge to the St. Lawrence County Fire Training Facility with a check for $5,000.
Training standards for firefighters mandate live fire skills training before they receive interior firefighter certifications. The donated funds will be used for the “Live Fire Burn Simulator Project” to train St. Lawrence County’s volunteer firefighters. The overall goal is to raise $450,000 for a new training facility.
SLFCU CEO Todd Mashaw said, “Working to give these civil servants the best training possible is a goal we are delighted to support.”
Bob Kerr, St. Lawrence County Fire Training Center fund raising co-chairman explained that firefighters in the county are now forced to travel outside the county to meet this training requirement. “This is a huge undertaking for our volunteer fire service and we thank SLFCU for their support. Having a new simulator that fulfills mandates and is closer to home will be a big advantage.”
St. Lawrence Federal is wholly owned by its more than 10,400 members. It has full-service branches in Ogdensburg and Canton.
