Along with the rest of Upstate, St. Lawrence County's unemployment rate for December rose.
The rate stood at 10.0 percent in December 2011, compared with 9.3 percent in November 2011 and 10.3 percent in December 2010.
To our west, Jefferson County's rate went from 9.4 percent in November to 10.1 percent in December, compared with 10.3 percent in December 2010.
To our east, in Franklin County, the rate was 8.9 percent in December, up from 8.4 percent in November, compared with 8.9 percent in December 2010.
St. Lawrence County no longer has the highest unemployment rate in the state outside of New York City, but it's close.
Oswego's rate for December stood at 10.2 percent, and Jefferson County was at 10.1 percent.
The jobless rate in Fulton, Hamilton and St. Lawrence counties stood at 10 percent.
