St. Lawrence County's unemployment rate dropped by .7 percent from January to February, bringing it down from 12.1 to 11.4 percent.
The 11.4 percent figure is similar to February 2012's unemployment rate of 11.5 percent.
Although the rate dropped by more than half of 1 percent, it was not enough to offset the 2 percent jump from 10.1 to 12.1 percent from December 2012 to January.
In Jefferson County the rate remained flat at 12.3 percent up just .2 percent compared with February 2012.
Franklin County saw a .4 percent decrease from 11.9 in January to 11.4 in February. In February of 2012 the rate was 10.8 percent.
The DOL says that rates are calculated following procedures prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The state’s unemployment rate relies in part on the results of a telephone survey of 3,100 households (out of more than 7 million) in New York State.
