St. Lawrence County's unemployment rate fell below 5 percent in December, down from the same month a year ago.
The state Department of Labor said the rate was 4.9 percent last month and 6.7 percent in December 2017. There were 2,200 people receiving benefits last month and 2,900 in December 2017. There were 42,300 people working in December 2018 and 40,600 in December 2017, DOL said.
To the east in Franklin County, the rate fell to 4.6 percent last month from 6.4 percent in December 2017. They had 900 people receiving benefits last month and 1,300 the same month in 2017. They had 19,300 people employed in December 2018 and 18,500 in December 2017, DOL said.
To the west in Jefferson County, the unemployment rate fell to 5.6 percent last month from 7.3 percent in December 2017. They had 2,500 people receiving unemployment last month and 3,300 in December 2017. There were 42,400 people employed in the county last month and 41,300 in December 2017, DOL said.
