OGDENSBURG -- St. Lawrence County students in grades 8 to 12 will have a chance to learn about manufacturing by visiting an Ogdensburg bomb suit manufacturer.
The bomb suits made at the facility are worn by U.S. soldiers around the world for bomb and improvised explosive devices disposal.
The Med-Eng Ogdensburg facility is located at 837 Commerce Park Dr. in the Ogdensburg Industrial Park.
The visiting students were invited for “Manufacturing Day,” which is held each year in early October, as part of “a national movement to showcase modern manufacturing and foster interest in manufacturing careers with America’s future workforce.”
Nationwide hundreds of events have been planned to bring interested student groups to manufacturing plants so they can see first hand different kinds of workplaces and learn about career options directly from the people who work there. Locally, students will see diverse operations making train brakes, bowling pins, safety nets and bomb suits.
In Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties around 450 students from 18 different schools will tour 14 different companies.
The companies who have opened their doors to these students in Jefferson County include Knowlton Technologies, New York Air Brake, Roth Industries, Current Applications, Jain Irrigation, North American Tapes, and Carthage Specialty Paperboard.
