CANTON -- Staff from the St. Lawrence County Planning Office will present results from a survey of the county's farming community on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room of the County Public Safety Complex, 49 ½ Court Street, Canton.
The survey asked farmers to rate existing services, identify sources used for information, identify economic constraints, and identify training topics to improve farm operations and profitability. Feedback from the survey will be used to help the county's Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board create a new Agricultural Development Plan.
The County’s Ag Survey is the result of a partnership between the County Planning Office and St. Lawrence University. Since last winter, the project partners designed the survey questionnaire, administered the survey online, and compiled survey results.
“We were very fortunate to work with Dr. Carrie Johns and graduating senior Kyle Currie on this project” said Ag and Farmland Protection Board Chair Bob Andrews. “We could not have done this survey without their help.”
Farmers, agribusiness representatives, elected officials, service organizations and members of the public are invited to the session to learn about the opportunities and challenges that affect St. Lawrence County’s agricultural community.
The survey results are available online at www.stlawco.org/departments/planning/publications/agplan.
