CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce honored the St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency and a former chamber board member at their March 30 membership meeting.
The 2017 Chamber Appreciation Award was presented to Patrick Kelly and the St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Corporation - Civic Development Corporation.
“The CDC is in place to assist not-for profit corporations within the County through low-interest loans and operational support. In addition to the loan provided by the CDC to the Chamber in 2015, the staff at the IDA have continued to provide advising and oversight of the organization, attending numerous meetings and reviewing numerous documents for the organization,” chamber secretary Lenore Vanderzee said during remarks at the event. “The IDA is a strong partner in economic development, and ensures the continuous participation of the Chamber in overall efforts that will improve opportunities for job and business growth in the region.”
The 2017 “Chamber of Commerce Day” Award was presented to retired board member, Bob Penski.

“Bob has been known for bringing new ideas to the board meetings and continuously bringing up new opportunities to other board members and staff. Director Brooke Rouse noted that he was a constant ray of support from the first day she started in the role, inspiring a greater vision and broader perspective, while providing information and connections,” chamber nice president Michelle Quinell-Gayle said during remarks at the event. “A chamber member, upon learning of this recognition, wrote that 'She has never met a bigger cheerleader for the North Country, and was happy to have Bob to introduce her to people when she moved to the area, ultimately resulting in the development of her own small business.”
"The awards were designed to recognize individuals and organizations that go above and beyond for the Chamber," Brooke Rouse, executive director of the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce said in a news release.
The agenda for the annual meeting, that included board directors and members, included a presentation of ongoing activities and plans for 2017, review of the 2017 budget, officer elections, approval of seven new members and appreciation for the chamber's Leadership Circle members.
