Small business 'Matchmaker' event planned Wednesday in Canton

CANTON – Small businesses around the county have an opportunity to market their goods and services Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the SUNY Canton Small Business Development Center’s Buy Local Matchmaker.

The event, held from 8 a.m.-noon in the SUNY Canton Campus Center, is aimed at making connections between small businesses and governments, large agencies and prime contractors who want to purchase goods and services locally.

The Matchmaker will work a lot like “speed-dating,” said organizers in a press release. Small business participants will sign up for 10-minute meetings with the contacts of their choice and have that short time to network and share marketing materials. When the bell rings, participants move to the next table.

There are two ways to participate.

Business participants will be given a list of the purchasing agents present and on the morning of the event they will sign up for 10-minute meetings with the agents of their choice. They will be able to discuss the products/services they offer and any key selling points they wish to highlight. Cost to attend is $15 per business participant.

Participants of prime agencies, contractors, and purchasing officers will be assigned a table where they can speak with small businesses that have signed up to network with them. They will be able to discuss any opportunities that exist for businesses with their company or agency. There is no cost to attend for these types of participants.
