Slic’s new rural fiber reaches 3,000th broadband customer on 800 miles of new cable

NICHOLVILLE -- Slic Network Solutions, a fiber-to-the-home provider based in St. Lawrence County, surpassed the 3,000-customer mark this month on its 800 miles of new fiber-optic cable.

Customers in the more rural areas of St. Lawrence and Franklin counties are expressing pleasure at having high-capacity television and internet service for the first time.

The expansion has been funded largely by grants and loans from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) totaling over $33 million.

When completed, the new lines are expected to serve over 6,000 residential customers.

A portion of the funding was earmarked for internet-protocol television service. Slic’s IPTV service, myEVTV.com, delivers video content over fiber-optic cable to set-top boxes in customers’ homes.

Slic is also able to provide rural customers with broadband internet and phone service.

myEVTV.com can deliver multiple high-definition video streams, over-the-top (OTT) video on demand services like Vudu, and web content over a single connection.

The myEVTV.com channel lineup will be offered in two tiers.

The first, mySelect TV, features 80-plus channels including local affiliates for FOX, NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS, plus History Channel, Disney, HGTV, Comedy Central ESPN, Yes Network, NFL Network and SNY Sports among others.

The second tier of service called myEnhanced TV features 91 additional channels including 50 CD quality music stations.

Bundles like myChoice will include a 10 Mbps internet connection, unlimited regional phone, and the mySelect TV package.

“These are premium grade services delivered over a 100 percent fiber-optic network to rural homes and business right here in upstate New York at what are proving to be an extremely valuable price points,” said Jeff Yette, sales engineer at Slic Network Solutions. “These are the types of service that until recently have only been made available in metropolitan areas,” he said.

Add-on services include faster Internet speeds, unlimited long distance in the U.S. and Canada, additional set-top boxes for additional televisions, HD module for access to more than 65 high-definition channels, whole-home DVR and premium content like HBO, Starz, Cinemax, Showtime and NFLRedZone.
