Flights from Ogdensburg and Massena to Chicago and Washington D.C. will likely begin in May, according to Skywest spokesperson Layne Watson.
“We are still in the process of finalizing the service start but we anticipate the beginning of May. We should have a specific date with a formal announcement next week,” he said.
Watson said the airport will likely create 15 to 17 positions at each airport. People interested can apply at skywest.com.
SkyWest Airlines was recently awarded the Essential Air Service subsidy for Massena and Ogdensburg.
At each community, SkyWest will provide 12 round trips per week to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), for a combined total annual subsidy of $5,997,626, which is $2,998,813 for each community.
The airline will use Canadair Regional Jet CRJ200, which have seating for 50 passengers. The average ticket price is estimated at $101.
“We are pleased with the DOT's decision to award air service in Ogdensburg and Massena to SkyWest Airlines. We look forward to working closely with both communities to help provide reliable air service to travelers in the area,” Watson said.
