POTSDAM -- The second Tastes and Talents of the North Country Holiday Show will be held at SUNY Potsdam's Maxcy Hall on Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10 featuring over 140 booths.

A sister show to the very popular Craft, Food & Wine Show held annually at Cheel Arena at Clarkson is going to be even larger than it was last year, and have more vendors than any show in the North Country, Event organizer Jo Ann Roberts from the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce said.

The show runs from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $3 and free for kids under age 12.

“People are excited to have a show this close to the holidays,” she said.

Designed to offer a ‘buy local’ experience, the show features hand crafted and homemade items.

“There is something for everyone, and you are certain to find unique gifts for your loved ones – from jewelry to cooking spices, woodwork to wine,” Roberts said.

The new venue can accommodate approximately 160 booths, which is even larger than the Craft, Food & Wine Show at Cheel Arena at Clarkson, which has 140 booths and took place in October.

Attendance is expected to be around three to four thousand, with last years show drawing around 2,800 at the St. Lawrence Centre mall.

“First time shows always bring in less,” Roberts said.

Roberts said new vendors include a few new woodworkers, a jeweler who travels the United States to collect stones and turns them into jewelry and an Adirondack nature photographer.

There will be ten wineries attending this year, the most ever at a chamber show, Roberts said.

Food vendors will sell fudge, maple products, honey, baked goods, meats and more.

The show had about 10 vendor spots left which were being offered to not-for-profit organizations to offer gift wrapping as a way to raise money, Roberts said.

A shuttle service will take people from parking lots 26 and 31 to the door of the field house. It will run until 8:30 p.m. on Friday and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

“There will be a couple sporting events going on at Maxcy Hall and many students will be on campus … so we hope to draw more people from that,” she said.

Vendors interested in a booth can contact Jo Ann Roberts at jo@slcchamber.org or 386-4000 for availability. More info: www.NorthCountryGuide.com.
