OGDENSBURG -- The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation is warning shippers about shoaling off of Galop Island in the St. Lawrence River east of Ogdensburg near Red Mills.
Vessels drawing more than 78 decimeters -- about 25-1/2 feet -- "are advised to avoid vessel meets and sailing over the two areas ... as recent bathymetric surveys have identified the presence of two shoals" in the channel, according to Canadian Seaway authorities.
The maximum speed for such vessels traveling upbound through that section is eight knots, until further notice.
