Price Chopper extends program to raise funds for flood victims in region

Price Chopper and the American Red Cross have expanded their program to raise funds to help local victims of this spring’s heavy rains and floods.

One dollar from every fresh-made pizza sold (both hot or cold for take-out) at any of Price Chopper’s 48 stores including those in St. Lawrence County, will be donated to the Red Cross to aid flood victims in upstate New York and Vermont.

Originally, the program was set to raise $10,000 by the end of May for flood victims in New York but that goal was met earlier than expected. The expanded program will continue until an additional $5,000 is raised.

The program was extended because flooding in New York continuing and new floods in Vermont put others in peril, said Price Chopper officials.

“Over the years, Price Chopper has worked with the Red Cross on a number of national and international efforts through our “Your Help Counts” pin-up program. As the storm damage in our local area became known, we immediately put this innovative program into action,” said Mona Golub, the chain’s VP Public Relations and Consumer and Marketing Services. “And, now, that the situation in some communities in New York – and now in Vermont -- continues to be difficult, we have stepped up again, expanded our program and are continuing to raise money for those in need.”
