POTSDAM -- Beginning Aug. 1, the village of Potsdam will require residents to use “customized” bags for trash removal, rather than the current sticker program.
The bags are marked “for trash only” and contain the village seal and Casella logo. They will be available in 15 and 30 gallon sizes. The cost of the 15 gallon bag will be the same as a single sticker, with the 30 gallon bag priced to match two stickers, plus a charge to cover the cost of the bags. Bags will be $14 per box, which contain ten 15 gallon or five 30 gallon bags.
Bags can be purchased at either Kinney Drugstore, Potsdam Save A Lot, the Potsdam Civic Center, or the Potsdam IGA.
Bags put out for collection with stickers will not be collected after Aug. 31.
Unused stickers may be exchanged for bags prior to Sept. 30 at the Casella stations in Parishville, 472 W. Parishville Rd., and Potsdam, 147 Maple St.
The bags will be used for trash only; recyclables will continue to be placed in the “no-sort” bins.
