Potsdam 'Spring Fling' has fun and games downtown Friday and Saturday

POTSDAM – The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce is welcoming spring back to downtown with a festive business event designed for the whole family Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16.

“Fun & Games” is the theme of this year’s Spring Fling, allowing merchants to bring out their inner child with creative activities and sales, according to Marylee Ballou, chamber director.

“We tried to have more activities at participating businesses so people can visit and have fun—and possibly win prizes,” Ballou said. “There’s a range of fun things to do for adults right down to little kids.”

And, there’s an opportunity to make downtown Potsdam shine by participating in the spring cleanup April 16 from 10 a.m. to noon. Those interested in helping should meet at the Potsdam Rescue Squad on Cottage Street prior to 10 a.m.

Participating businesses with special activities or sales (all on Saturday unless noted):

• Best Friends Thrift Shop, 8 Raymond St. Bag Sale on Books and Records. Enter Drawing for a Pet Friendly Easter Basket. Tickets $1 donation to Potsdam Humane Society.

• EmBears – Teddy Bear Tea at 24 Market St. (chamber office) 9:30-11 a.m. and 12:30-2 p.m. Bring your favorite stuffed animal for parade. Will have games, story, craft project. Refreshments served. $2 per child. Pre-register by calling Ellen at 244-9733. Register by April 13.

• Friends of the Potsdam Library – Book Sale extended hours 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Special pricing on videos, books on tape, 10 for $1. Work on jigsaw puzzles.

• Julian’s Restaurant – 38 Market St. Coloring Contest: Two age levels-3-6 & 7+; winner for each: St. Lawrence Chocolates gift basket and free kids meal with drink and dessert each month for a year. (Can take coloring page and return or color in the restaurant.)

• Misty Hollow, 22 Market St. Stop in between 1-3 p.m. and make a free pair of earrings.

• North Country Neighbors – 6 Main St. Horse Drawn Wagon Rides between us and Best Friends Thrift Shop.

• Potsdam Library – Movement & board games for kids 4-7 from 10-11:30 a.m. Open Board Games to play all day in the basement of the library.

• St. Lawrence Chocolates – 4 Main St. Pin the Chocolate on the Map Game (win prize/discount based on results).

• St. Lawrence County Arts Council – 51 Market St., 2-4 p.m. Exhibit Opening “Photography of Jim Bullard” 5% off gift shop. Play Arts Trivia: answer question correctly to win 5% coupon off arts class.

• The Copy Shop – Friday April 15, 11 Maple St. “Guess the Number of Paperclips” closest guess without going over will win a $25 gift certificate to The Copy Shop.

• The World Artisan – 1/2 Main St. Coloring Contest: color our shop logo. Four age categories: 5 & under, 6-8, 9-12 and 13+. Prize to winner in each age level.

• Chamber is selling tickets to win five luncheons at Potsdam businesses.

Cost of ticket is $5. Tickets available on Thursday, April 14 from 4-6 p.m. at Potsdam IGA or on Saturday, April 16 at Julian’s and Friends of the Potsdam Library Book Store. The Potsdam Chamber office at 24 Market St. also has tickets.
