POTSDAM -- Drs. Stephane and Alison Roy of BodyWorks Chiropractic, 17 Leroy St., are selling their practice to Dr. Shawn Burns and his wife MaKenzie, of Back in Motion Chiropractic.

The Roys will continue practicing until Dec. 16 and Dr. Burns will take over at the Leroy Street location shortly after the New Year.

Dr. Roy has practiced a for over 12 years and offers a combination of traditional hands on chiropractic adjusting techniques combined with muscle work in the form of trigger point therapy, and stretching techniques.

“What makes it so unique is Dr. Roy’s exceptional knowledge of the biomechanics of the body as well as his strong understanding of the compensatory patterns that the body adapts to when stressed,” a press release said. “He created protocols that address these patterns specifically and bring the body back to a state of east, which in turn, decreases pain and increases function.”

Roy has been teaching Burns his method of treatment so that the transition will be as smooth as possible and his patients will be left in good hands, the release says.

“It was very important to me when I made the decision to move away from Potsdam that my patients would not be left without an opportunity to receive similar care as I have been providing,” Dr. Stephene Roy said. “I am confident that Dr. Burns will take good care of the people that I have come to care for over the past 7 years in practice here in Potsdam.”

The Roys will be moving to Woodland Park, Colorado, a town just outside Colorado Springs.

They have purchased property where they will live and work and allows time needed to develop practice methods into a seminar that Roy hopes to teach to other practitioners in the future.

Burns and his wife said they are “extremely excited for this new opportunity.”

They opened Back in Motion Chiropractic in June of 2014 in the SeaComm Plaza on Market Street.

The move will allow them to work in a location that is central to all schools and colleges, as well as the hospital and downtown Potsdam, the release said.

Burns said he is looking forward to serving the chiropractic needs of both his current and Dr. Roy’s former parents, and he is accepting new patients as well.

Burns plans to treat patients at the SeaComm Plaza location until Dec. 28.

His new location will open during the first week of January 2017.
