Today's Hair won first place in Potsdam holiday window contest

POTSDAM -- The Chamber of Commerce has chosen the window display by Today’s Hair and Day Spa, 36 Market St., as the winner of its holiday window display contest.

The chamber sent out its three judges on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 8 to view the thirteen businesses that entered.

The judges enjoyed the variety of displays, from traditional to modern, including styles such as painted windows and interior design.

Judges scored each entry on five criteria: theme, eye catching, reflects business, use of space, and uniqueness.

“I’m so glad I did not have to judge,” said chamber Executive Director Marylee Ballou. “Our businesses have really stepped up and created some great displays over the last two years.”

The judges really liked the Today’s Hair windows for their consistency of theme and color, the uniqueness of the concept, and how it is a display that can’t be ignored.

Runner up honors went to Mh Studios, 63 Market St., with its depiction of a silver winter wonderland. “It has such an elegance and magical feel,” said judge and chamber board member Tracy Tuttle.

“Although we only have a first prize and runner up ribbon,” Ballou said, “we also wanted to give an honorable mention shout out to Bicknell Appliance & Home Interiors, for their charming scene which encompassed both and exterior and interior view. They received the third highest total score.”

Today’s Hair & Day Spa will receive a blue ribbon and a pizza party for its staff. Mh Studios will receive a white ribbon.

The chamber will explore the possibility of doing a similar contest around other holidays like Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day, and is asking any businesses to contact the chamber if they would be interested.
