POTSDAM – The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce Thursday honored Tim Carey as citizen of the year and Jane Khondker of Jazzercise with the business of the year award.
Tim Carey, recipient of the 2017 Potsdam Chamber of Commerce citizen of the year award presented by chamber executive board member Rob Bicknell, also received a NY State Assembly outstanding civilian citation from representative Addie Jenne.
After 30 years, Citizen Honor Award winner Tim Carey recently retired as the Potsdam Recreation Department director.
Mr. Carey enjoyed working with the youth of the community and seeing them learn new skills like swimming and ice skating, the chamber said.

Jane Khondker of Jazzercise, celebrated the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce 2017 business of the year award with several Jazzercise class instructors and members.
Khondker has been dedicated to fitness and sharing her knowledge of fitness and dance with the community of Potsdam since 2000, said a chamber press release. Khondker supports many local events such as fitness and health awareness week at Potsdam Central School, and contributes to Fright Night and Summer Festival, the chamber said. Jazzercise has hosted fundraisers for Hurricane Victims in Houston as well as the Potsdam Holiday Fund.
The awards were presented during the chamber's annual dinner in the Barben Rooms at Clarkson University’s Cheel Center.
