POTSDAM -- A hair salon has finished first in this year's Potsdam Chamber of Commerce business window display contest.

First place prize was awarded to Today’s Hair & Day Spa, 36 Market St.; second to Misty Hollow, 22 Market St.; and third to Best Friends Thrift Store, 8 Raymond St.

The first place prize is pizza from the place of their choice courtesy of the Potsdam Chamber. Second and third place receive $10 chamber gift certificates.

The judging took place the evening of Dec. 12, with 10 businesses choosing to participate.

“The judges were impressed in one way or another by all the entries this year,” said Potsdam Chamber Executive Director Marylee Ballou. The displays, she said, ranged from enchanting to whimsical and from classic to thought- or message-based.

Judges scored the windows basd on four criteria: reflection of business, eye catching, use of space, and uniqueness.”

Of the 10 businesses taking part, it was the first year for B99.3, Northern Ice & Dance, Best Friends Thrift Store, Brick & Mortar Music, and 3 Bears Gluten Free Bakery & Café.

The other businesses included Misty Hollow, Today’s Hair & Day Spa, Bicknell Appliance/Home Interiors, Mh Studios, and Harris Medical Supplies & Equipment.

“Of course, the biggest winner in all of this is the public, who get to view and enjoy all the efforts of these businesses,” said Ballou.
