Andy Lucas with his ballet barre in Northern Ice and Dance in Potsdam

POTSDAM -- Andy Lucas, owner of Baby's First Dreams Art of Potsdam, is making adjustable custom ballet barres, stationary handrails for young ballet students.

Lucas said he was inspired by his daughter Memphis, “who desperately wanted one,” but after searching online and coming up with nothing, he decided to make one for her.

Today, after months of preparation with Cassie Lawrence of Northern Ice and Dance, 47 Market St., Potsdam, his ballet barres are available there.

Lucas said he is hoping to put demos in many more dance stores in the area.

Baby's First Dreams Ballerina Bars are fully customizable, with decoration options such as different colors, hand painted birth flower and ballet shoes, and blocks of their initials.

There is an online shop on Facebook at www.facebook.com/babysfirstdreams or www.facebook.com/balletbars.

Lucas said he plans on helping a church in North Lawrence paint their stained glass windows, and wants to make and donate hockey stick racks to Pine Street Arena, where his oldest son Logan plays with PJHA.
