Plumbers Steamfitters union recruiting apprentices from St. Lawrence County

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local Union #7, will conduct a recruitment from January 4, 2018 through December 27, 2018 for five plumber and pipefitter apprentices, and five heating, ventilation, and air conditioning mechanic apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #7, 18 Avis Drive, Latham, NY, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every Thursday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

Must be at least 18 years old.

Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).

Must be physically able to perform the work required, as determined by a physical and a drug test, after selection and prior to indenture. Costs for medical examinations or drug testing are at the expense of the sponsor.

Must take and pass the “Work Keys” aptitude test.

Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Must have reliable means of transportation to and from work and related instruction. The employer will not be responsible for transportation of apprentices.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
