OGDENSBURG -- Serenity Acres Farm Store and Custom Meats is looking to expand.

Company owner Kandace Dietschweiler-Hartley says they have outgrown their current site and want to add a 6,000 square foot slaughterhouse, along with new retail space.

She wants to relocate to 6401 State Rte. 68, a former flea market.

Dietschweiler-Hartley says construction could begin in the spring.

They hope to process 80 livestock per week by 2017 or 2018, she said.

“It will allow local farmers the local infrastructure of having their meats processed with three options: Conventional USDA Inspected, Certified Organic USDA Inspected and New York State Custom, all without a long wait for processing time,” Dietschweiler-Hartley said.

Serenity Acres have been working with AgriForaging, an agricultural infrastructure and food safety compliance firm from Delaware County.

“AgriForaging has had the pleasure of working with Serenity Acres Farm in the development and design of their new soon-to-be USDA slaughterhouse and meat processing facility,” states AgriForaging, founder Nicole Day Gray.

“Kandace [Dietschweiler-Hartley], the farmer, owner and operator of Serenity Acres Farm has been immersed in the North Country agricultural community her entire life offers an incredible depth of local relationships with regional farmers and agricultural enterprises. The design and engineering plans have been completed and site work is underway.”

Serenity Acres also sells organic milk, USDA-inspected frozen meats, farm fresh extra large eggs, local honey, maple syrup, cheese curd and produce. The meats are organic and locally raised. The business opened in May 2008.
