OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg City Manager John Pinkerton would like to see Time Warner Cable provide the city government with free internet service in exchange for a franchise agreement.
Representatives from Time Warner Cable will give a presentation at the Ogdensburg council meeting Monday at 7 p.m. at the city hall.
The city council has tabled the renewal of franchise agreement with Time Warner Cable in hopes of striking a better deal with the company.
Mayor William Nelson has expressed concern about poor quality service combined with an ever-increasing price tag for subscribers.
He said he is also concerned about possible sale of Time Warner to Comcast. Nelson said he was worried Ogdensburg might be considered “small potatoes” to the company, which may not see the area as a cost effective investment.
The city has had successful negotiations in the past.
According to Nelson, previous “extensive” negotiations led to the broadcast of city council meetings and he would like to see what other services could be provided, such as emergency access to the network.
