OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg City Council will consider a resolution Tuesday to partner with the St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency to assist in the redevelopment of the Newell property.
The city has been working to sell the property since June of 2014, but contamination concerns have caused deals to fall through.
The IDA supports redevelopment of the Newell property and recognizes the importance of the project for economic development in the city, according to the resolution.
The partnership would be used to improve the city's chances of receiving a Restore New York grant, which could aid in removal of contaminants at the property.
Ogdensburg City Planner Andrea Smith is hoping to acquire two awards though the program. One focuses on cleaning up the Newell property while the other would focus on rehabilitation and reconstruction at the former Diamond National site.
Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at city hall.
