The Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce has honored Mort Backus and Sons, which recently completed a 5,000 square foot expansion to its dealership facility, with the “Business of the Quarter Award” for the third quarter.

The expansion enhanced the showroom and service department, chamber officials noted in presenting the award. Mort Backus also added drive-in lanes for customer convenience as well as handicapped-accessible bathrooms.

The award is presented to local businesses that improve Ogdensburg and surrounding areas by making improvements to the business which enhance the community; showing growth in sales, square footage, employment levels, and/or growth in the products or services offered; and providing excellent customer service or supporting charitable and service organizations.

Mort Backus and Sons reports that 2014 has been a very strong year for sales which has enabled the hiring of two additional employees. The firm is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

In May, they made a donation to a local charity of choice for every car that was sold. The dealership is a long-time member of the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce and supports a number of local community fundraising efforts.
