OGDENSBURG -- Oswegatchie's Aubuchon Hardware store has closed its doors after just four years of operations at its Route 68 location.
The small store provided jobs to two full-time and two part-time employees.
Chief Operating Officer Daniel Aubuchon said both full-time employees have been offered jobs at other locations, but the commute for part-timer employees would have been too far.
The closest Aubchon store to Ogdensburg is located in Gouverneur.
Aubuchon said the Ogdensburg store was the lowest volume store in the entire chain, which includes over 100 locations throughout New York and other New England states.
"We gave it time, but it never grew. In fact, last year sales went down," he said.
He said the weak economy may have played a part in the sales, but competition from a nearby "big-box" store was also a factor.
"Ogdensburg is a great community, but we just couldn't get the sales we needed," he said.
Oswegatchie's Aubuchon Hardware Store opened in 2009 and closed last week.
