LISBON -- Mort Backus and Sons is undergoing a 5,000 square-foot renovation that will add service drive-throughs, a showroom and an employee training center.
Mike Backus, who spoke on behalf of the company, said the massive expansion will add two four-lane car service drive-throughs, which allow customers to pull into the building for service .
“If people don’t want to get out of their cars, they can drive right up to the service door and it will open,” he said.
Backus said the option to pull into the building will be especially useful during the winter months.
“In inclement weather they won’t have to wade through the snow,” he said.
Backus said this type of service is becoming more and more popular throughout the country, but is only recently catching on in the North Country.
Backus said a new three-car show room will be installed at the front of the building to greet customers who stop into the main office.
The expansion also entails new administrative and sales offices, as well as larger and more accessible bathrooms.
Another important aspect of the expansion, according to Backus, is a new employee-training center.
He said this will allow employees to stay current with latest advancements in technology and service.
“It’s a very important part of our business,” Backus said. “We are very fortunate to have some quality technicians, but it takes a lot of training to keep them up to date.”
The construction began in April and should be completed in October.
Mort Backus and Sons has been a GM dealer for more than 25 years and has been in operation for more 55 years. It is located at 4835 State Highway 68, Ogdensburg.
