The New York Power Authority Board of Trustees approved hydropower and funding incentives to North Country Dairy in North Lawrence and Criscitello & Criscitello in Potsdam to create 22 jobs.
The hydropower and funding incentives would generate more than $17 million in capital investments, according to a NYPA press release.
North Country Dairy, a producer of cultured dairy products and a subsidiary of Upstate Niagara Cooperative in North Lawrence, is receiving 850 kW of low-cost St. Lawrence hydropower to create at least 17 jobs and at least $3.4 million in capital investments as part of a project to install a new, Greek-style low-sugar yogurt line within its existing facility. This expansion is also being supported by a performance-based capital grant from Empire State Development. North Country Dairy is an existing NYPA hydropower customer with commitments already tied to 80 jobs.
Criscitello & Criscitello, a custom cabinetry manufacturer in Potsdam known as From the Heart Cabinetry, was awarded $95,000 to contribute to an $885,000 expansion project that will create five jobs. The expansion includes the purchase of a building and new energy-efficient machinery to enable the company to meet increasing product demand.
Patrick J. Kelly, Northern New York Power Proceeds Allocation Board chair and St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency CEO, said, “Working with NYPA, we are now consistently using the power and resources generated by the St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project to make good things happen in the North Country. With NYPA and Empire State Development’s help, these projects are adding to the clear pattern of positive activity underway in St. Lawrence County.”
NYPA's hydropower allocations from the St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Power Project are provided to manufacturers under seven-year contracts and are reserved for businesses in St. Lawrence, Franklin, and Jefferson counties.
