CANTON -- A longtime local provider of electrical services is expanding his offerings to include a well regarded line of backup generators.
Scott Shipley of Northern Lights Energy has been doing residential and light commercial electrical work, and has been developing solar electric installations around the county.
Now he says he can supply and install natural gas or propane powered automatic backup power generators from Generac that provide full-time protection against electric power loss for a residence or business.
He is stressing two points.
One is that improperly installed generators are potentially dangerous. If an installation does not include a required transfer switch, a generator might try to send the power out over the grid, which is dangerous for the building owner and occupants and for people who might be working on power lines during an outage. Shipley says his installations comply with all relevant codes, including a transfer switch.
And he says that many low-cost generators are very loud, but that the Generac line is "surprisingly quiet."
