POTSDAM -- North Country Savings Bank recently donated $500 to support the inaugural Ives Park Concert Series by sponsoring the Songwriter Night on Saturday, September 24, at 7 p.m. in the Ives Park Gazebo.
The Songwriter Night will feature Matt Bullwinkle as well as other talented songwriters from the local community.
Plans for the first annual Ives Park Concert Series in Potsdam starting late summer 2016 are underway. The series is organized by Maggie McKenna along with her husband, Matt McKenna, and friend, Marcus Alvarez, with graphic designer Catherine LaPointe-Vollmer. What a Raquette Music and Dance, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that promotes the efforts of musicians and dancers in the North Country, has agreed to stand as the group’s fiscal conduit for this new endeavor. They have received a grant through the St. Lawrence Arts Council with funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
This concert series will offer many benefits to the community, especially connecting students and local residents, attracting visitors to local businesses, and showcasing local talent. Nine concerts and ten performing groups will be presented over eight Saturdays from August 13 through October 1, 2016. The performances will take place in the Ives Park Gazebo on the banks of the Raquette River in downtown Potsdam with rain location at the United Methodist Church at 26 Main St in Potsdam.
