New thrift shop benefiting Potsdam Animal Shelter going strong

POTSDAM –Best Friends Thrift Shop has raised more than $1,600 for the Potsdam Humane Society since opening its doors in early December.

When it opened, the hope had been that revenue would be sufficient to begin offsetting expenses at the animal shelter by late spring.

Instead, the store has provided a check for over $1,600 after only one month.

“Response has been unbelievable,” says owner Cathy Connolly. “Thanks to the terrific outpouring of good quality donations and enthusiastic shoppers, we've been successful right from the get-go. Hopefully we can maintain this momentum.”

While Connolly's company owns the thrift shop, she reminds everyone that all donations are accepted on behalf of the Potsdam Humane Society and that 100 percent of the net profits from the store go directly to the daily care needs of shelter animals.

“Best Friends just manages the thrift shop,” Connolly said. “This protects the shelter from the risk of starting a business and frees them to concentrate on their core mission, finding homes for all those deserving pets”.

Best Friends Thrift Shop is at 8 Raymond Street in Potsdam, adjacent to The Tile Company, and is open for business Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It accepts non-clothing donations during those times. Best Friends Thrift Shop is a division of North Country Neighbors Flea Market.

Persons having questions about donation guidelines are encouraged to call 268-1055.
