POTSDAM — Treasures Cove thrift and gift shop has filled a storefront vacancy downtown at 22 Market St.

The shop is located where Misty Hollow operated its business for nearly 20 years.

Store manager Laura Taylor operates store alongside Sourcing Manager Jay Taylor. The business is owned by Matthew and Amy Taylor. Matthew is Laura’s brother.

Also chipping in at the store is Lisa Taylor, Jay’s wife; and Wesley Williams, Laura’s husband.

A soft opening was held Thursday with an official opening planned in the coming weeks, Laura said.

The business was the result of several of the employees and those involved having extensive collections amassed over the years, selling items online and through purchasing estates and storage lockers.

Laura and Wesley ran an eBay business but decided they needed a physical location for their wares. Matthew was looking to expand his role in the business world.

The big hit with customers so far has been an extensive music collection.

“The big attraction is music, it has been drawing a lot of interest,” Williams said.

Williams has his massive vinyl music collection for sale, along with CDs, cassettes and 8-track.

“There is not a big selection like that around here,” Williams said.

So far foot traffic and word-of-mouth have kept store workers busy.

Other items for sale include clothing, sporting goods, house ware items and pretty much anything else that falls under that umbrella. There are also toys and video games for sale.

Collectibles range from figurines, glassware and distillery items among others.

Being located in the former Misty Hollow location was always an interest of Mary’s. “I wanted to come to downtown Potsdam … there is a historic feel in the building,” she said.

Taylor said she and Wesley are closing on house in Potsdam soon and their little girl attends Potsdam Central.

The store is about 4,200 square feet and items are being put on the floor each day.

Furniture is expected to be for sale in the coming days and weeks.

Treasures Cove is open 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and closed Sundays. Cash, credit and checks are accepted.

Donations are accepted by appointment only.
