New comic book shop opening in Massena mall next month

MASSENA -- A new comic book shop, We’ve Got Issues, will host a grand opening May 4 at 3 p.m. at the St. Lawrence Centre.

The shop’s owners are Patrick Burnett, Elijah Winfrey and Casondra Arquitte.

The store sells comics and graphic novels by big-name publishers like DC and Marvel, as well as independent brands like Dark Horse and Image. They will also sell other comic-related merchandise including merchandise such as handmade blankets, comic book hats, action figures, cards and collectibles.

“We are excited to get this place open for all the comic book fans in the area who have been asking for something like this. We will be adding more and more as we go as well. We are so appreciative for the mall working with us to get this done,” Winfrey said in a news release.

The trio are looking to feature local comic book creators. If someone has a comic book they have created or original, they can send a message to the store’s Facebook page or come down to the shop for more information on how to get it displayed.

“We want to give local artists a chance to sell their art in a store front we know there is a lot of talent in the area and that is something we would really like to do,” Burnett said in the release.

The partnering with local comic book dealer Brent Remington, who will be featuring some of his rare books and collectibles in the store under the branding of Remy’s Toys and Collectibles.

“We are really excited to have some of Brent’s toys collectibles and comics in the store. There is some really rare things in the store that you cant find anywhere else!” Winfrey said.

On Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m., the store will host an art club where kids can come and learn how to draw their favorite characters. The cost to be a part of the club will be $1 per child.

“We really want to make this a fun and exciting atmosphere for all age groups,” Burnett said.

Hours of operation for We’ve Got Issues will be 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and open during all mall hours on Saturday and Sunday. They will be closed Monday and Tuesday.
