POTSDAM -- Paul C. O’Donnell, OD, a clinical optometrist, has joined the St. Lawrence Health System medical staff.
As a doctor of optometry, Dr. O’Donnell is trained to offer sight testing and correction as well as diagnosis, treatment, and management of vision changes. He can identify risk factors for eye disease, as well as changes in vision or in the structure or characteristics of the eye that signal an abnormality or disease.
These risk factors and changes may include a family history of eye disease, diabetes, excess production of tears, loss of peripheral vision, pain in the eye, or appearance of objects that seem to be floating across the eye or appear as specks in vision.
He offers prescriptions for corrective lenses and medications, and works in collaboration with the Eye Care Center’s certified ophthalmology assistants and with Dr. VanWagner for surgical treatments or treatments of complex conditions.
Dr. O’Donnell received his doctor of optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL, following completion of two undergraduate degrees: one in visual science and one in biology. He served an internship at White River Junction Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Vermont.
He is certified by the National Board of Optometry.
He comes to the CPH Eye Care Center from a private practice in Ogdensburg. Prior to this he served as an optometrist for the Cerebral Palsy Center of the North Country and in private optometry practices throughout Northern New York. His volunteer service includes the Lions Club Vision Committee.
In addition to his optometry practice, Dr. O’Donnell is a USA Hockey Level IV coach and an AAU Level I coach.
