CANTON -- Next month downtown Canton will have a new bakery.

Sisters Megan Morley and Morgan Hetu say they will open The Little Cake Co. by the end of April or early May.

The new bakery will be located at 13 Hodskin St. and will be open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.

“My sister has always been interested in baking…and I have a love for cooking and baking,” Hetu said. “We are combing her creativeness with my love for baking.”

The sisters created some goodies for family and friends as a mini trial and received a “good response,” Hetu said.

“We decided to make this more than a fun hobby,” she said.

Cupcakes, brownies and cake bars are just a few of the treats on the menu. Fresh coffee will be served. Future menu options could include pastries like a cannoli.

“We will check out the response and add more options as we go along,” Hetu said.

A experimental creation will be available from day one.

‘We are excited to be selling “Chubs,” Hetu said.

She described them as donut holes with a crispy outside and creamy outside, served warm with cinnamon sugar on them.

“They are so good,” she said.

Taking your dog for a walk in downtown Canton?

Now dog owners can grab a treat for their pooch while treating their sweet tooth.

“Pupcakes” will be sold.

“I am a dog mom…so I couldn't leave her out,” Hetu said.

The dog treats are all-natural, contain no sugar or dairy products, and are peanut butter and carrot flavored, she said.

Plans are to add employees down the road.

“Hopefully we are so busy we have to hire,” she said.

Hetu is a teacher when she is not baking. Morley owns Between the Buns in Potsdam.

There will be some crossover with two cupcakes planned.

Plans are to offer a maple and bacon cupcake as well as a white chocolate raspberry almond cupcake on the Between the Buns menu.

Hetu and Morley are “really excited” to work together.

“The great thing is that we can be honest with each other…if something isn’t good we say it,” Hetu said.

“We’re excited to get out an serve the local community and put smiles on faces,” she said.
